EXPERIENCE

Attorney Havilah Lilly worked at the Adams County District Attorney’s office in Brighton and at the Weld County District Attorney’s office in Greeley during law school. She quickly became a successful litigator and was trusted to litigate motions hearings and jury trials as a first chair.

Upon graduation from law school, Havilah worked as a law clerk for former Chief Judge Maria E. Berkenkotter in Boulder County. She researched and wrote orders for the court and worked in the Adult Integrated Drug Court as a support for the former Chief Judge. After her clerkship, she went on to the Weld County District Attorney’s office to serve as a prosecutor. She quickly moved up the ranks and litigated a number of high-profile cases. Havilah was never afraid to try a case to a jury and has litigated numerous trials during her time at the DA’s office.

Havilah is experienced in traffic, misdemeanor, and felony cases including specialized crimes of domestic violence, crimes of violence, felony DUI/DWAI, drug cases, and juvenile adjudications. Havilah has used that experience to successfully defend a multitude of clients.

COMMUNITY
INVOLVEMENT

Havilah is an active board member with the Greeley Housing Authority and continues to believe that working and volunteering in the community is important to the community’s success. During her time at the DA office, Havilah also served as a reserve board member with the Greeley Community Review Board which helped determine when a juvenile who has been committed to the Department of Youth Services should be paroled into the community.

BACKGROUND

As a teenager, Havilah was removed from her parent’s home by the Department of Human Services and was wrapped up as a child in a complicated Dependency and Neglect system. She was emancipated at 18 and got pregnant with her oldest daughter while still in high school.

Following high school and obtaining a business management degree at the Metropolitan State University of Denver, she attended law school on a single mother scholarship. Havilah, from being involved in the system as a child, is highly confident in her knowledge of the Colorado criminal justice system. She has been arrested previously and thoroughly understands the criminal justice system as an accused defendant, a prosecutor, and a criminal defense attorney.
